By looking at this painting, it is easy to see why some people considered Alma-Tadema a colorist. Color was obviously very important to him, and he used it well. The bright sunlight touches everything with glowing radiance. The pink flowers on the tree to the right pull the eye across the painting and give us a chance to admire the marble, ocean, and sky.
